Psychotherapy FAQ

How can therapy help me?

There is a misconception that going to therapy means that there is something wrong with you. However, just like someone exercises to stay healthy, psychotherapy can also be helpful in maintaining a positive and healthy lifestyle. There are numerous benefits of participating in therapy. For example, engaging in psychotherapy can help you learn new problem-solving skills, enhance coping strategies, and provide support in issues that arise such as symptoms of depression or anxiety, relationship troubles, stress management, low self-esteem, past trauma, etc. Furthermore, therapy can help you obtain a better understanding of your self and your patterns, find new perspectives on problems that arise in your life, and aid in overall personal growth. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on your willingness to engage in the process and how you put into practice what you learn.

Do I really need therapy?

Attending therapy does not mean that you are somehow less capable of handling problems as they arise compared to others. Rather, everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and knowing when to seek out extra support shows increased self-awareness and is something to be admired. While it can be scary to seek out the help of a trained professional, by doing so you are taking responsibility of your life and making a conscious commitment to change your situation. Therapy can offer you long-lasting benefits and support and provides you with the tools you need to face challenging situations as they arise.

What is therapy like?

As each person is unique, therapy differs depending on the individual and the goals that you have set with your therapist.  In general, topics frequently discussed in therapy include current events happening in your life, your personal history, new challenges that come up, and any changes that have occurred from the previous therapy session. It is important to know that people who actively participate in the therapy process and implement what was discussed in therapy into their daily lives will see more results from therapy. Therapy may also include asking you to do some tasks outside of sessions to aid the process. Depending on your specific goals the length and frequency of therapy varies.

What are your fees?

I am currently a contracted provider with Medicare, United Healthcare, Optum, Aetna, and Lyra Health. If your insurance company allows you to receive services out-of-network, I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company carefully prior to our first meeting to determine your insurance provider’s reimbursement policies for an out-of-network provider. Otherwise, my fee is $250.00 per session. Cash, check, and credit cards are the currently accepted forms of payment.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, please do so at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellations within the 24-hour period will be charged the full rate of the session.
